Do you know how high 4500 feet looks … outside of a very small PiperCub? Let me tell you it looks a lot higher than 4500 feet. There we were flying with Missionary Aviation Fellowship flying over the Capitol city of Boise, Idaho, as part of a nation-wide effort to fly and pray over every Capitol in America.
What an honor to fly over the Treasure Valley region of Boise, Idaho, with three pastors, the pilot and myself. A special thanks to Debbie Crosby the Idaho State Coordinator and her Capitol Event Committee for making it possible. And there we were flying and praying in between the instructions of the area Air Traffic Control Tower for Boise. Our twenty second bursts of prayer were recorded live by a local Christian radio station and re-played during the whole day. Each of us had several times to pray as we lifted off the runway and climbed or bumped our way up to 4500 feet elevation and spent the following hour in prayer. But what do you say in just 20 seconds before your cut-off and you are hanging in “prayer air”! What would you pray for a city if you only had 20 seconds to say it? As others prayed, I thought and prayed and waited my turn. Prayers of worship, confession, repentance, and intercession for revival, renewal to come to the Body of Christ in Boise and the whole nation. These guys meant every word of it! Our twenty seconds were passionate and specific. I wish you could have heard it! It was great! And I believe God was pleased.
After the flight landed safely in the gust of winds, there were lots of nervous laughter and “high-fives” before we departed. Later we reconvened on the steps of the City Hall, one block down from the Capitol building that was being renovated.
After the flight, one of the pastors, and I were escorted to the local Christian radio station that had done the live recording of the prayers. There they edited and put together a string of the 20 second passionate prayers that were interspersed with their radio programming throughout the day. We were there to do a recorded interview with the leading talk show host of their Christian radio station, who is a very gracious lady with a passion for prayer and truly a sensitive heart to the things of the Spirit. She asked probing questions about prayer and revival. and is it too late for America? I was praying under my breath, “Lord what do You want us to say?” And words came out of our mouths that were not our own. God was honored, Christ was lifted up and the people and country were prayed for right there in the studio. Our hostess, while wiping away the tears from her eyes, gave us the warmest smile.
I was invited to attend the National Day of Prayer event in Washington D.C.. That was an honor in itself, extended by Dr. and Mrs Dobson. But deep down inside I knew I was not to go. I declined, and instead went to Boise, Idaho. I was a little embarrassed though when the NDP State Coordinator introduced me at the noon time Capitol event as having decline the chance to go to Washington D.C. and opted out for Boise instead. The thousand or so people gathered there on the steps of the City Hall erupted with enthusiastic applause! I was shocked! And when it came my time to offer a prayer for our nation, it was all I could do to keep from breaking down in tears. There is so much that is grieving the heart of God over our country. He has blest us more than any people on earth. We are losing our way for which He called us into being - to truly be a lighthouse on a hill for all the world to see the light of the Gospel of Christ that the Kingdom of God may come to the nations of the world.
My visit to Boise for the National Day of Prayer was truly God ordained. The 24 hour Bible reading the night before, the Prayer Flight over the Capitol, the time with pastors, and the noon time event are memories I will cherish as the National Area Leader of the western states. What an honor and great joy!
The National Day of Prayer event across America is over. Now please pray that it’s catalytic support of prayer groups, ministries and movements be felt throughout the year in local churches, cities and states across the land. That's good! I believe it pleases the heart of God, to see His people seeking His face, repenting of sins and pleading America to do the same. Read testimonies at http://ndptf.org/ and continue to pray for our oneness and unity in Christ to be fully realized.
“Prayer America’s Hope” was the theme for this year. May it continue to be prayed by us all into the fabric of our national life. And we know how much that is needed in our nation's “race to change."
Thank you so much for everything!
Dianne and I are so blessed to be a part of His Kingdom work through CFF, and we are so blessed by your years of partnership. Thank you in His Name!
Affectionately!
